X-23 follows the covert creation, conditioning, and early missions of Laura, a genetically engineered mutant weapon derived from Wolverine’s damaged DNA and grafted onto a female genetic host.

Origins of the Program
A secretive operation at Alkali Lake loses access to Wolverine. Desperate, the scientists—led by Dr. Zander and Dr. Sarah Kinney—salvage a droplet of his DNA. With the DNA incomplete, Sarah proposes using her own egg and the X-chromosome to stabilize it. She volunteers as the surrogate.

Transigen later seizes control, transporting Sarah to a harsher, more militarized facility where Laura develops at a rapid, unnatural rate.

Laura’s Training & Weaponization
Inside Transigen, Laura grows into a child with advanced physical potential. Under supervision from Kamala (a super-strong mutant), she undergoes rigorous combat training.

Her “birthday present” is horrific: Transigen suppresses her healing factor with a gas, straps her down, and infuses liquid adamantium into her bone claws and feet claws—completing Weapon X-23.

Laura’s Breakout Sequence
Laura steals a motorcycle to escape the facility for the first time.
Pursued by bikers, she crashes violently—leading to a brutal and shocking fight where Laura:

  • Shot multiple times
  • Heals
  • Breaks free from restraints
  • Dismembers attackers
  • Kills multiple men using both hand and foot claws in a feral frenzy

The fight nearly kills her until Rogue arrives. Rogue tries to save Laura by absorbing her power—accidentally copying Wolverine-like senses, healing, and bone claws emerging from her own arm.
