A mix of youthful Hogwarts adventure, fish-out-of-water wizard kids in the Muggle world, and a darker undercurrent of something dangerous and forbidden involving a lost artifact and unexplained pollution. The title "The Dragon's Tale" playfully nods both to literal dragon riding and to the dinosaur "tail" in the museum that sparks the "are dragons real?" debate.
The story opens at Hogwarts on a clear night. A young witch, Jessica, excitedly prepares for a secret late-night adventure. She pulls out vintage leather flying gear and a saddle from under her bed and tells her friend Billy, to get ready. Billy agrees to join her on her adventure.
Jessica, now in flying leathers and a maroon cloak, carries a heavy dragon saddle up a grassy hill outside Hogwarts. In the distance, the Hogwarts Express puffs along its tracks while students inside excitedly admire the castle. High above, massive dragon wings slice through the clouds, followed by a dragon's roar, hinting that Jessica and Billy are about to go dragon riding under the cover of night.
The scene then jumps to London during the day. Jessica, Billy, Damon, and Elaine are on a school trip to the Natural History Museum. They wander through exhibits of mummies and come across a huge dinosaur skeleton that the tour guide proudly explains was discovered in Britain in the early 1500s and is a home-grown "rock star" of paleontology.
Elaine, a witch unfamiliar with Muggle science, is confused and insists the skeleton must be a dragon. The guide laughs and explains it's a dinosaur ("something much more special... they are real"), while Elaine counters that dragons are real too. Meanwhile, Damon mischievously tries to touch an exhibit, while ghostly, semi-transparent specters (Dementors) drift unnoticed through the Muggle crowd.
